Schuyler, and Steuben, New York
- Chemung County has four animal shelters compared with one shelter for humans.
- One out of every four homeless persons in Chemung County is a child.
- 62% of the homeless children in Chemung County were age five or less.
- Most homeless shelters are set up dormitory style and families are not kept together.
- At other shelters the homeless have to draw lots to see if there is a bed available for
them.
- At other shelters the homeless are put out in the morning and are not allowed to return
until night.
- The former director of Second Place East, Natsue Kobayashi was honored by New York State
as "The Woman of Distinction" for her humanitarian work in Senator John R.
Kuhl's district.
- EOP/Second Place East is located in John W. Jones Court, which was named after a former
slave who helped 800 other slaves escape through the Underground Railroad.
