Enrolling a child
in Head Start is a wise choice because:
Our early childhood education services are designed to meet
the individual needs of each child.
Children with disabilities are welcome. At least 10 percent of children enrolled have a documented
disability. Special education services are available on site.
Medical and dental support services are available.
Family and Community Partnerships assist families through
routine home visits, referrals and follow-up on individual needs.
Head Start has an on-staff mental health consultant available
to work with children and families who have special needs or concerns. The consultant
works closely with staff and parents to address difficult behaviors and emotional issues
in children's lives.
Nutritious meals and snacks are served to children according
to Child and Adult Care Food Program regulations. Nutrition education is promoted in all
classrooms and is offered to parents.
As their child's primary educator, parents are
encouraged to be involved in all aspects of the program as partners with Head Start staff.
Staff assist children and families in smoothly and
successfully transitioning from other programs to Head Start and from Head Start to public
school.
