Andrea Miles Ogunwumi
named Executive Director

Oct.1  - Economic Opportunity Board of Directors President Paul Sartori today announced that Andrea Miles Ogunwumi has been named Executive Director of the agency, effective Oct.6

"We are thrilled Andrea has accepted the leadership position for the agency," said Sartori. "She is a talented manager with a wide range of experience in business, education and the not-for-profit sector. Her results-oriented approach will strengthen the agency's ability to improve the quality of life for our children and families."

Since September 2002, Ogunwumi has been associated with EOP as a loaned executive from Corning Incorporated, where she had been employed since 1980. She has assisted the agency with strategic planning, human resources, marketing, and fund development.

"I am excited about the opportunity to direct the agency as it develops new solutions to meet increasing needs in the community," said Ogunwumi. "I believe EOP is uniquely positioned to help families develop life skills that lead to permanent self sufficiency."

Ellen Wohl, who has had a 35-year career with EOP and has most recently served as interim executive director, will remain at the agency during October to ensure a smooth transition.

Sartori said, "Ellen is a remarkable talented human service provider. Her many contributions leave a lasting imprint with the agency and the entire community. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Ellen for her dedication to making life better for so many people."

Ogunwumi's career included more than 20 years of industry experience with Corning Incorporated, The Equitable Life and Assurance Company, and Xerox Corporation. She is currently a member of the Executive Board of Directors, Faith to Face Ministries, Corning, N.Y.. and was recently appointed as a board member of Prevent Child Abuse New York, Albany, N.Y..

Ms. Ogunwumi holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from College of WIlliam and Mary, Williamsburg, Va., and a Master of Science degree in Organization Development, from American University, Washington, D.C. She currently resides in Elmira with her husband, Peter D. Ogunwumi.
